A Little About  Ian MacRae

As you may already know, Ian MacRae is one of Australia’s most respected broadcasters, with over 30 years experience in radio both in Australia and the UK.

Ian began as an office boy at a Melbourne radio station and worked his way down from there! He became a panel operator and then moved to first on air job in a country regional station.

Sold his car to pay for ticket and went to the U.K. where he worked for two years on the off-shore legendary "pirate" stations.

Ian then returned to Australia to a job in Perth then to Sydney where he joined Radio 2SM and stayed with that station all the way to the top of the ratings. Hosted the breakfast show for 13 years.

In 1987 Ian presented a weeknight network programme and thus became Australia's first satellite music show presenter.

Three years after that Ian joined news-talk radio on the 2GB (Sydney) breakfast session.

In 1993 Ian joined the Sky Radio Satellite Network to once again present a
night-time music and fun show.

Now Ian freelances concentrating on audio program production including podcasts, writing scripts and doing M.C, compere and speaker engagements, plus some casual on-air work as well as running the radio school.

Having hosted a leading Morning Show on Sydney radio for 13 consecutive years, Ian has truly earned a place in radio history and is one of a small number of broadcasters in the world in this position who teaches commercial broadcasting to others.

Today, Ian shares his vast experience and knowledge through his radio course in which he and his team of industry lecturers train promising radio stars, the art of radio broadcasting in a real broadcast studio.

And because Ian still works in radio today, he possesses the skills and knowledge to bring students up to the standard demanded by today's radio stations.

The first tip is not to get bogged down with technical side of things, but rather concentrate on converting your ideas into sound.

Whether you’re recording an interview, or creating a commercial, or station promo, certain sound design principles will always apply. These techniques will be passed onto students of the Ian MacRae Radio School
